Gun-metal Grey [Lyrics] a dimming vision slipping color no chromatics just gun-metal grey that's no way to live, just gun-metal grey you be the vision and i will filter the sound and when you're life has got no sound i'm the quiet one around you can never say how you and i were made you be the vision and i will filter the sound jagged sleep no grace of slumber sloth and torpor, dreamless phase that's no way to live, that gun-metal grey you be the vision and i will filter the sound and when you're life has got no sound i'm the quiet one around you can never say how you and i were made if your thinkin bigger than what you know that's gun-metal grey violence told you your actually alone, gun-metal grey up all night nailin that thought to the wall, gun-metal grey pool of opinion spills to truth that's gun-metal grey

Fire Is The Mouth [Lyrics] room acoustics change, when we open up the mouth city, summer, vision of a cloud no phone just cardinal directions, get me out of this town be where emotions don't burn be where emotions don't stir the moving bodies clock nil after the house burns we're still mood's room rearranged when ya opened up the mouth when ya ha ha ha ha ha huh oh, i feel inane and i feel enraged should move to the country to day yeah be where emotions don't burn after the house burns we're still smoke left the country to chill mouth is the fire that learns be where emotions don't burn

Love-gun 04:11 video
Love-gun [Lyrics] tv’s got better deals again [there's no water figure water out] the future is blunt and i can't defend [changing of original face] empty mtv is a matrix of prisons [lock me up deeper now] bitter entertainment i'm not tryna help you out the body's irrational again [no more father i'm just water now] i'm indifferent to doubt and i can't pretend [i know to think would be a mistake] i'ma get a house and forget everybody [you can come and check me out] get a little closer but i'm not seeing patients now if i'm thinkin too big than what's right, i look at the sun get a little smaller until night, when my look turns to nothin push pull revisit the sun, the self-sufficient one, boy where'd you come from with that love-gun deeper, closer, (sun/son), somebody, patience, luh, love-gun daddy's on morphine again [no more bother get more water now] since black and white split we're left with only red [you know it's just a little too late] i'ma throw a fit while i wait for somebody [ruuner come and knock me out] get a little dimmer cuz i'm not tryna see this now if i'm thinkin too big than what's right, i look at the sun get a little smaller until night, when my look turns to nothin push pull revisit the sun, the self-sufficient one, boy where'd you come from with that love-gun

Vaccination Free [Lyrics] got a used truck for the stuff i have to do pass them on the hill, with their brand new white tattoo this mind is a ship that has not yet left this, the kind with the resonating parts half-met future so dumb, leaning half-mast pitched upright, half-masked and half-overcast rhyming is a limit, half-witted fun with friends but i'm trying to say something direct, clean transmission, so maybe i'll never do it again or maybe they can have my brain to stew, in endless-options' temperatured pot maybe i get my freedom within confines, so i stick with this femmed-out microtonal synth pop or maybe i'll finish my wanderings vaccination-free just waiting for life's lockjaw to inevitably catch up to me happily waiting for life's lockjaw to inevitably catch up to me
7.
House That's Always Burning [Lyrics] hold me down don't let up til my head pop off down cuz trucks and chains bleached blonds are the same to me wow burn it thin you came around struck your balance beside the flame in my town burn it thin, burn it thin i burnt my touch, from feelin you ten billion thoughts, boiled down to two i've been caught breakin in to the house that's always burnin touch never fades but feelins do but i'm feelin worlds fast crashin through no way i'm not movin in to the house that's always burnin burn it down stack a life just to give it away yeah cuz you know i heard that sound burn it thin, burn i thin... cuz trucks and chains bleached blonds are the same to me wow burn it thin, burn it thin i burnt my touch, from feelin you ten billion thoughts, boiled down to two i've been caught breakin in to the house that's always burnin touch never fades but feelins do but i'm feelin worlds fast crashin through no way i'm not movin in to the house that's always burnin

about

NNA Tapes is excited to present ‘129 Dreamless GMG,’ the brand new full-length from the New York City-based art pop ensemble Erica Eso. Operating within a radical conceptual framework, but channeled through the voice of modern pop music, Erica Eso bridges aesthetic and musical gesture in a way that could only be found in our contemporary post-everything information age. While the band’s 2015 debut album ‘2019’ had a more “bedroom pop” essence in its recording and execution, ‘129 Dreamless GMG’ refines, expands, and evolves the Erica Eso sound from home studio experimentation to a full-fledged band format, with live drums (Rhonda Lowry), bass (Nathanial Morgan), back-up vocals (Ellen O, Angelica Bess), and collaboration more central to the arrangements. Under the leadership and compositional vision of Weston Minissali (Cloud Becomes Your Hand; VaVatican), Erica Eso delivers the newness of microtonality fused with enough melody and harmony to satisfy the ears of listeners from all different inclinations.

As time moves rapidly forward, while information and technology become a more integral part of our culture, Erica Eso demonstrates the musical amalgamation of styles and the obliteration of genre as music mutates and adapts with the ages. Tracks like “Fire Is The Mouth” thrive on Krautrock-inspired rhythmic power, while “Love Gun” draws heavily from contemporary sultry R&B. On the other hand, tracks like “Mirror Stage I & II” stand in contrast to the poppier material on the record, by embracing concréte and collage compositions in a long-form, patient anti-structure. Born of group improvisation then meticulously edited, these tracks evoke mournful tenderness, horror and serenity all in their joint 8-minute span. Further deviating from expectations, “Vaccination Free” develops a liturgical sensibility through the collective harmonic recitation of text, transmitting existential themes of emptiness, form, and the moment’s reckoning with futurity. As scattered as this might seem in words, the band doesn’t clunkily jump from genre to genre, but, with the help of mixing engineer Steve Marion (of Delicate Steve), translates these influences into their own distilled language, their self-proclaimed “femmed-out microtonal synth pop.”

Lyrically, Erica Eso speaks in poetic fragments, strung together in phrases that are thoughtfully composed, allowing them to unfold and develop in unexpected ways alongside their corresponding song structures. However, their abstraction does not mean these lyrics are devoid of content. As the American political climate intensifies, Erica seems to position herself not necessarily on the front lines of immediate response, but as an artistic voice that advocates for the empowerment of quiet reflection on the ultimately ungraspable paradoxes of the world: self and other, living and dying, boi and gurl, and so on. Lyrical elements of candid humor and absurdity further contribute to the impossible-to-pidgeonhole nature of the band. To hone their signature sound, Erica Eso draws stylistically from the 5 previous decades of popular Western music history - the glamour and danceable rhythms of the 70s, the fervent electronic discovery of the 80s, the indie ethos and technological refinement of the 90s, up to the chaotic, digital wonderland of post-millennial radio hits. In an age of extreme change and global uncertainty, ‘129 Dreamless GMG’ conceptually raises many important questions, accompanied by satisfying, non-linguistic musical answers to help us find our way into the Next Age.
